Cold-water pipes sweat when their surface is below the room-air dew point. Dry the pipe, confirm that water returns broadly rather than from a fitting, lower room humidity, improve air movement, and install suitable closed-cell pipe insulation where appropriate.

- Rule out a leak before covering the pipe.
- Condensation is often worst near long cold runs and humid-air entry.
- Seal insulation seams so humid air cannot reach the pipe.
Condensation or leak?
Dry the line completely and observe where water first appears. Condensation forms over the cold surface; a leak usually starts at a joint, valve, pinhole, or one defined location.
If the meter is running with all fixtures off or water appears when the line is not cold, investigate plumbing leakage.
Change the air-side condition
Use the calculator to compare room dew point with pipe temperature. Lowering RH creates a larger temperature margin and can stop sweating across the whole room.
Close humid-air paths, run a dehumidifier if appropriate, and avoid aiming hot unconditioned air at the pipe.
Insulate the cold surface
Choose insulation sized for the pipe and suitable for the location. Close seams and joints so humid air does not bypass the insulation and condense underneath.
Keep insulation clear of equipment and components that require access, inspection, or different treatment.
